God’s Road

Barbed wire lined country roads led to my grandparents farm in North Dakota. They were poor by this world’s standards but rich in faith. However they raised nine children who gave them 44 grand children, I being the second. As with many of my cousins, I spent many days on their farm enjoying things like riding with Grandma while taking lunch to Grandpa doing whatever in the fields. I cherish these memories.

This actually is a sequel to my next painting, which is of my grandmother. It was her faith that separated her from others. She had a steadfastness about her walk where veering off into other paths did not seem to be an option. She walked one road, one God, and one faith. This blog focuses on that one road.

There is a dirt country road going down the middle with fields on either side with twists, turns, and bumps. But isn’t life like that. Barbed wire fences held in cows, kept them out of fields, and held boundary lines. Everyone has a road they chose to follow. God also has a road.

God’s Road—God’s Gospel: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit; three personalities, one God. God the Son took on humanity with the mission to save mankind from the consequences of sin and rebellion against God, Genesis 3. God’s road led Jesus to the cross for the express purpose of taking the sins of the whole world. He stated in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

This is a divine invitation on the part of God for mankind to embrace God’s salvation through Jesus Christ. Mankind’s part is to receive this free gift by professing Jesus as their Savior. By accepting God’s invitation we acknowledge the truth based upon God’s Word.

Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” And Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” I Corinthians 15:3-5 states, “For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve.” Cephas is also called Peter.

Finally, Romans 10:9-10 states, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

It has been many years since I jumped onto God’s path. I’ve had many twists and turns with a few hard bumps like most. But, like Gramma I have treasures because of my faith that can only be found by traveling God’s Road.

I encourage you to also get onto God’s road. To do so, admit to God what He already knows about you. Ask Him to forgive you and then ask Jesus to come into your heart. And, begin to follow HIm. To do that being in a good Bible based church is a good idea. Yes, it is as simple as that.
